Staying Healthy in the Smoke. 10 things you can do to help right now!

The smoke is here, hovering in the air, causing our lungs to constrict, eyes to burn, throats to hurt, sinuses to run, headaches, fatigue, and other health issues. We unfortunately cannot control the smoke in the environment, however, we can try to keep ourselves as healthy as possible. From minimizing the contact with the smoke to helping the body not be negatively effected by it, here is a list of things you can do right now to help.

  • When you go outside wear a mask. You can get inexpensive masks that block smoke and particles at your local hardware store such as the one in the link here: N95 Sanding Mask.
  • Department of Health Guidelines : https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Pubs/334-353.pdf

    2.  Use a HEPA air filter in your house at home to filter the air.

    3. Drink hot or warm tea. The smoke can paralyze the cilia in our lungs that help move out harmful particles. The warmth in the tea can encourage them to move again and can help you to cough up toxic matter.

    4.  Take NAC to help the toxic load on the lungs and the liver.

    5.  Come in for an immune boosting gamma globulin shot.  Breathing in the smoke can lower our immune system and cold and flu season is coming, getting this injection can give you up to 2 months of protection.

    6. Receive some nutrients intravenously. Dr. Richter can deliver nutrients through an IV bag or IV push that can help your system to be hydrated, nourished, and strong. The high level of nutrients can help you to detox from the harmful smoke toxins.

    7. Increase daily intake of anti-oxidant foods and vitamins. Make sure to eat a rainbow of health plant based foods daily.

    8. Stay hydrated, drink up to half of your bodyweight in ounces to help flush toxins.

    9. Sweat, sweat out the toxins by exercising, sitting on the sauna or taking a hot bath.

    10. Get enough sleep. Your body needs time and energy to heal. This healing is done while your sleeping, but if you aren’t getting enough sleep or enough good quality sleep, your body may not be able to repair itself. This makes it harder to deal with the damage from the smoke.

These are just a few things you can do for your health right now to help while our air is smokey. Once the smoke has cleared, stay tuned for a detox program.
