Stem Cell Injection or Knee Replacement?

Are you being faced with the reality of needing a knee replacement? Are you having constant pain, or grinding, and clicking in your knee when walking up or down stairs? Has your orthopedist told you that you have knee arthritis? If so, you may be a great candidate for a stem cell injection.

Stem cells are special cells found in our body that can transform into any type of cell found in our body.  They seek out areas of injury, disease, and destruction where they are capable of regenerating new, healthy cells which is why we use them in regenerative medicine to accelerate the natural healing process. Stem cells have been especially effective in healing degenerative joint conditions including but not limited to ligament, tendon, cartilage or muscle tissues. Injections of stem cells into the knee has been extremely effective at reducing pain, and regenerating the area, alleviating the need for a painful surgery.

Stem cells can come from a variety of areas. They can be extracted from bone marrow or adipose tissue. They can also be extracted from umbilical cord tissue, harvesting billions of brand new viable cells. Umbilical cord cells are ethically harvested from donated tissue that would be otherwise discarded. Umbilical cord stem cells are also minimally invasive compared to the other 2 options, less costly, and often more effective. With umbilical cord cells there is no chance for rejection or other adverse events. The body’s immune system is unable to recognize umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells as foreign and therefore they are not rejected. Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells also proliferate/differentiate more efficiently than “older” cells, such as those found in the fat and therefore, they are considered to be more “potent”.

If you have been told you have knee arthritis, or that you are a candidate for a knee replacement, now is the time to think about getting a stem cell injection. The stem cells can regenerate the area saving you a costly, painful surgery and recovery. However, if you wait too long and the area becomes too degenerated, stem cell therapy may not work as effectively.

Recent studies are showing showing stem cell effectiveness for not only osteoarthritis, but also rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis being more of an immune condition, rather than just inflammatory such as osteoarthritis. Both types of arthritis cause pain and degeneration of the joint area.

Here is a link to a free chapter of the book Stem Cell Therapy. How Stem Cells are disrupting medicine and transforming lives. By Neil Riordan, PA, PHD. This chapter discusses how stem cells can help arthritis.

If you have been thinking about stem cells for your pain, now is a good time.
